Retail Team Lead
RETAIL TEAM LEAD – NEW STORE OPENING

ABOUT THE ROLE
Goodwill Central Texas is opening a brand-new retail store in Lockhart, and we’re looking for a Retail Team Lead to help build and launch our new team!
The Retail Team Lead supports management in the overall operation of the Goodwill retail store, including customer service, cash management, facility operations, communications, merchandising, production, inventory control, and team development.
As part of our new-store opening team, you’ll help create a strong foundation for the Lockhart location by coaching team members, supporting daily operations, and helping ensure the store is ready to deliver an exceptional experience for customers, donors, and team members from day one.
The Retail Team Lead will have a primary team they are responsible for supporting when not assisting management with overall store operations. The assigned team may include the retail sales floor team or back-room production team, as determined by the Retail General Manager.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the store management team with the overall operation of the retail store when scheduled or assigned.
- Support the successful launch and ongoing operation of the new Lockhart location.
- Help prepare the store for opening, including merchandising, production, inventory, organization, and operational readiness.
- Coach, train, and develop associates on the assigned team as a subject matter expert.
- Provide direction and support to team members to help achieve daily production, sales, and operational goals.
- Ensure compliance with all Goodwill Central Texas policies and procedures, including reporting theft, misuse of company property, or other illegal activities.
- Resolve customer complaints in a fair and impartial manner, referring unsettled disputes to the store manager.
- Support a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming environment for customers, donors, and team members.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures and securing the store as scheduled.
- Support other store functions and responsibilities as assigned by the Retail General Manager.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
The Retail Team Lead is responsible for coaching, training, and providing day-to-day guidance to team members in assigned areas, including:
- AI Merchandise Pricer
- Merchandise Processor
- Sales Associate
This position does not have direct reports and works under the direction of the Retail General Manager and store management team.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 1 year of supervisory, team leadership, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule in support of new-store opening, production, sales floor, opening, and closing operations.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English with customers and Goodwill Central Texas associates.
- Strong customer service, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead by example and create a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Ability to take ownership, adapt to changing priorities, and support the team where needed.
- Ability to perform keyholder responsibilities, including opening and closing and securing the store as scheduled.
- Big Joe certification required to load and unload trailers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit or stand for up to eight hours.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, and reach.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate equipment, computers, telephones, and other tools.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with retail, merchandising, production, stocking, and store operations.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision for computer and administrative work.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required as business demands dictate.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, based on store and business needs.
